Cooperation with ENTSO-E

A long-term bilateral cooperation agreement was signed between the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) and Georgian State Electrosystem.

The European Network of Transmission System Operators unites 40 transmission system operators operating in 36 countries. Turkey's transmission system operator TEIAS has enjoyed observer member status in the organization since 2016. ENTSO-E's goal is to ensure the optimal and stable functioning of the internal energy market, which is implemented through the definition of common policies and directions, technical cooperation among transmission network operators, and the development of long-term network rules.

In 2018, ENTSO-E positively assessed the significant steps taken by Georgia toward compliance with European standards of the internal energy market, particularly Georgia's signing of the Protocol on accession to the Treaty establishing the Energy Community. In 2019, a long-term bilateral cooperation agreement was concluded between it and GSE, through which ENTSO-E offered GSE a three-year cooperation program. This aimed at the gradual preparation of non-member transmission system operators to receive observer member status. In 2023, an "Agreement on Data Provision to the Transparency Platform" was signed between ENTSO-E and GSE, which aims to ensure the creation of the necessary framework for properly fulfilling the obligations provided for by the transparency regulation.

GSE's conclusion of a cooperation agreement with the European Network of Transmission System Operators is a significant step forward for the country's energy sustainability. Within the framework of cooperation with ENTSO-E, GSE will have the opportunity to deepen cooperation with transmission system operators operating on a European scale. This will increase the opportunity to attract investments to the country, will contribute to both the growth of professional and institutional capabilities, as well as long-term development prospects and the deepening of energy cooperation with the European Union.
