Akhaltsikhe-Batumi OHL Works Underway

Within the framework of the Transmission Grid Strengthening Project, Georgian State Electrosystem is implementing the construction project of a 220 kv power transmission line connecting Akhaltsikhe and Batumi substations.

The project including construction of approximately 145 km long, 220 kv OHL from Akhaltsikhe to Batumi substation is being carried out in two stages.The first stage, which involves the construction of 52 km section of Batumi-Shuakhevi, has been completed. At this stage, the construction works on the 94 km Akhaltsikhe-Shuakhevi section are underway.The tower foundations are being prepared, after the wires and optical fiber cables will be stretched. The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.

The construction of a new power transmission line is of great importance for the energy system of Georgia. As a result of the implementation of the project the reliability of electricity supply in the southwestern part of Georgia will be significantly improved, it will meet the growing demand for electricity in the tourist area of ​​Adjara, and export to Turkey will also increase.
