Director General of GSE at Energy Forum
Giorgi Gigineishvili, Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem, took part in the Energy Forum, which was organized by the US Agency for International Development and the Parliament of Georgia.
The forum was about Georgia's obligations under the European Energy Union Treaty, including reforms, challenges and ways to overcome them. Additionally, the draft of the Energy Independence Act, prepared by the Committee of Sector Economy and Economic Policy with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was discussed.
First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze made a speech where he focused on the current situation in the energy sector of Georgia.
„Hydropower plants are the main source of local generation of the country. Of these, the main load falls on regulatory HPPs and makes up about 40% of the total basket. The demand for electricity is increasing every year. Accordingly, our task is to minimize the need to meet the increase in demand at the expense of imports", stated Romeo Mikautadze.
Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission and the representatives of the energy sector participated in the event.
