Ministerial Meeting on Green Energy Development Held in Romania
Within the framework of the agreement on "Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy," the 8th ministerial meeting was held in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The meeting was attended by First Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, high-ranking officials from Romania, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Bulgaria, a representative of the European Commission, the Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem Giorgi Gigineishvili, and the Georgian Ambassador to Romania Tamar Beruchashvili.
Ministers from Georgia, Romania, Azerbaijan, and Hungary, along with the European Commission representative, signed a protocol amending the "Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary." The Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem, Giorgi Gigineishvili, signed an agreement on the establishment of a joint venture by the transmission system operators of the four countries.
The development and transmission of green energy involve the transportation of renewable energy from Georgia to Eastern and Central Europe through the construction of transmission infrastructure such as the Black Sea submarine cable. In 2024, a feasibility study commissioned by the Georgian State Electrosystem was completed, which confirmed that the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project is promising and technically and economically feasible.
