The Constuction of Substation Tskaltubo 500 Has Been Completed
The Georgian State Electrosystem has completed the construction of another significant substation, Tskaltubo 500 for the development of the power transmission network. The official event was opened by Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze. Speeches were delivered by First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia Ali Kaan Orbay, and Director General of the Georgian State Electrosystem Giorgi Gigineishvili.
"As a result of the implementation of the project, the power transmission system will be significantly strengthened, enabling the safe transfer of new capacities from Western Georgia and connection of new hydro power plants to Georgia's energy system, this will lead to an increase in regional infrastructure capacity and maximize the country's electricity export and transit potential-stated Giorgi Gigineishvili, Director General of the Georgian State Electrosystem.
The substation construction project was implemented with the financial support of the World Bank under the "Energy Supply Reliability and Financial Recovery Project". The project was supervised by a joint venture of foreign companies, led by Decon International GmbH, the design and construction works of the substation were carried out by the Turkish company BEST.
Within the framework of the project, the construction of the 500 kV Jvari-Tskaltubo Overhead Transmission Line (length: up to 80 km) will also be implemented, which will connect the new substation to the substation Jvari 500.
Construction works for the substation began in 2022 and were completed in 2024, the project's cost amounted to 19.8 million US dollars.
"This is only a part of the large-scale projects that the Georgian State Electrosystem is implementing in various regions of Georgia with the financial support of donor organizations," Giorgi Gigineishvili stated.
