Construction of the Ozurgeti-Paliastomi Transmission Line

Within the framework of the Electricity Network Improvement Programme (ENIP), Georgian State Electrosystem is implementing the construction of a new 220 kV substation in Ozurgeti and the transmission lines Ozurgeti-Zoti and Ozurgeti-Paliastomi.
At this stage, construction work on the Ozurgeti-Paliastomi transmission line and its looping into the Ozurgeti substation is actively underway.
As part of the project, from the Ozurgeti-Paliastomi looping point to the substation under construction Ozurgeti 220, the dismantling of tower #146 and the installation of new towers have already been completed. Work is ongoing to install transmission lines and fiber-optic cables from the looping point to the Ozurgeti substation.
This transmission line will connect the Ozurgeti substation to the existing Paliastomi 1 transmission line, which will enable the integration of electricity generated from renewable energy sources into the grid, strengthen the transmission infrastructure in the Guria and Adjara regions, and increase the capacity and reliability of the transmission network. Construction of the Ozurgeti-Paliastomi transmission line began in 2023, and its completion is planned for 2025.
ENIP is an extensive investment programme into Georgia’s transmission infrastructure realized by the partnership between the European Union, GSE and KfW, working as Team Europe. The total investment of ENIP is EUR 270 Mio, co-financed by the Federal German Government through KfW and EBRD, including EUR 9.9 Mio grant funding from the EU Neighbourhood Investment Platform (EU NIP) implemented by KfW. Within the ENIP framework, numerous infrastructure projects are underway nationwide, encompassing the construction and expansion of 7 substations and over 540 km of power transmission lines.
