Trainings Within the Framework of the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project

Within the framework of the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project, employees of the Georgian State Electrosystem attended trainings organized by the World Bank. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Environment Protection and Agriculture, Economy and Sustainable Development, as well as representatives from the Agency of Protected Areas and the National Environmental Agency.

Representatives of the consulting company Affric shared experiences and best practices with employees from various structural units of GSE regarding submarine cable projects implemented in different countries. The discussion covered social and environmental regulations, challenges, risks, future economic benefits, and protection mechanisms.

The training included both theoretical and practical aspects. Working groups discussed issues related to selecting submarine cable routes and implementing geophysical and geotechnical research methods.

The Black Sea Submarine Cable Project envisions the installation of a high-voltage submarine transmission network that will connect the power systems of Georgia and Europe.

With funding from the World Bank and support from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Georgian State Electrosystem conducted a feasibility study of the project, which determined that the project is promising and technically and economically feasible. Currently, preparatory work is underway to conduct studies of the Black Sea seabud and to assess environmental and social impacts.
