Signing Between Georgian State Electrosystem and Metlen Energy and Metals
At the headquarters of Georgian State Electrosystem, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze and GSE General Director Vano Zardiashvili held a meeting with representatives of Metlen Energy and Metals.
Within the framework of the meeting, a contract was signed between the Georgian State Electrosystem and Metlen Energy and Metals, under which the project for the construction of the Ozurgeti and Lajanuri substations and the expansion of the Akhaltsikhe substation with 400 kV and 500 kV bays moves into an active construction phase.
As a result of lengthy and intensive negotiations between the parties, the exact deadlines for the completion of construction works have been updated. According to the contract, the construction of all three substations will be completed in accordance with the mutually agreed updated schedule.
The implementation of this project will significantly increase the capacity and reliability of Georgia's energy system, ensure that growing electricity demand in the Adjara and Guria regions is met, and strengthen the country's export capabilities.
The project will play an important role in integrating renewable energy sources into the transmission network. Through the 110 kV transmission line entering the Ozurgeti substation, the Bakhvi and Basra hydropower plants will be connected to the grid by the end of the year, further enhancing the reliability of energy supply in the Guria region and ensuring stable electricity delivery to the region.
The project is being implemented with the financial support of KfW Development Bank.
