Agreement Signed Between Georgia and Azerbaijan on Electricity Transit
As part of an official government visit to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the Director General of the Georgian State Electrosystem, Vano Zardiashvili, and the President of SOCAR, Rovshan Najaf, signed an agreement on the key terms of electricity transit services.
According to the agreement, the main conditions for electricity transit between the parties have been defined and will enter into force on January 1, 2027. The transit will be carried out from Azerbaijan to Türkiye, while the overall term of the agreement will be 20 years. In addition, the agreement predetermines the transit tariff for the first three years, which will contribute to improved budgetary and system planning.
The agreement will strengthen Georgia’s legal and financial role as a transit country, make a significant contribution to the development of the regional energy corridor, and create a foundation for long-term regional cooperation and stable partnership.
Vano Zardiashvili was in Baku together with the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, as part of the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia. The signing ceremony of the agreement on the key terms of electricity transit services was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani.
