Vano Zardiashvili Met with Representatives of METLEN Energy & Metals

The Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem, Vano Zardiashvili, met with representatives of the Greek company METLEN Energy & Metals to discuss a substation construction project.
The project includes the construction of the 220/110 kV Lajanuri Substation and the 220/110 kV Ozurgeti Substation, as well as the expansion of the 500 kV and 400 kV sections of the Akhaltsikhe Substation.
Construction works, which began in 2022, were suspended in 2024 by the contractor after the company declined to proceed with an increase in the project cost. Prolonged negotiations were held between the parties in order to resume the works.
During the meeting with the GSE Director General, the parties agreed that construction will resume in the shortest possible time, the project will be completed on schedule, and the initially requested budget will be reduced.
This strategic project for the development of Georgia’s electricity transmission network is financed by the Federal Republic of Germany, through the KfW Development Bank and the European Union.
Implementation of the project will contribute to meeting the growing regional demand for electricity, increasing export potential, and integrating new hydropower plants into Georgia’s transmission network.
