World Bank Delegation’s Visit to Georgia

As part of a working visit to Georgia, the World Bank’s Regional Director for Infrastructure in Europe and Central Asia, Charles Cormier, and the Regional Director for the South Caucasus, Rolande Pryce, met with Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili. The meeting was also attended by the Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem, Vano Zardiashvili.
The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as ongoing and future joint projects. The discussion also covered the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project and the progress achieved, including the planned seabed survey under World Bank support and the prospects for expanding cooperation with the Romanian side within the framework of Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status.
During the visit to Georgia, the World Bank delegation toured the Tskaltubo 500 substation operated by Georgian State Electrosystem. They inspected one of the key substations for Georgia’s power supply, which was constructed with World Bank financial support under the Power Supply Reliability and Financial Recovery Project.
Georgian State Electrosystem completed the construction of the strategically important Tskaltubo 500 substation in December 2024 as part of the development of the electricity transmission network. The project also includes the construction of an approximately 80 km-long 500 kV transmission line Jvari–Tskaltubo, which will connect the Tskaltubo 500 substation to the Jvari 500 substation.
