Projects

The project comprises the construction of a high voltage double-circuit 220 kV transmission line from the Akhaltsikhe 500/400/220 kV substation with the high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter station (back-to-back configuration) for power exchange with Turkey, to Batumi 220 kV substation, connecting also the new hydroelectric power plants Shuakhevi HPP (185 MW together with Skhalta HPP) and Koromkheti HPP (150 MW) to the Georgian power system.

Black Sea Transmission Network Project, supported by a number of international donor organizations (including European Commission Neighborhood Investment Fund (EC NIF), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB) and KfW) and co-funded by GSE, was started in 2009, to create an asynchronous interconnection between the 500 kV network of Georgia and the 400 kV network of Turkey.

• Construction of a new 500/220kV SS Jvari;
• Construction of 220/110kV SS Khorga;
• Construction of 500kV tie-in line (2x8km) from 500kV OHL Kavkasioni to 500/220kV SS Jvari and OHLs Odishi-1,2 (60km) (Jvari-Khorga);
• Construction of second circuit 220 kV OHL “Menji-Khorga” and installation of two associated bays in SS Menji for 220kV OHLs Khorga-1 and Khorga-2, including tie-in line from 220 kV OHL Paliastomi-2 to 220/110 kV SS Khorga.

Government of Georgia has received a loan from the World Bank towards the cost of the Transmission Grid Strengthening Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds to eligible payments under the contract for Supply of Conductors for 220kV OHL Kolkhida-1.
